WINNING SANDWICHES FOR SPORTS LOVERS

Serve them hot or cold, or let everyone make their own. Any way you go, sandwiches are a great choice for a game-day menu. The secret to building a successful sandwich is a good mix of tastes and textures: crisp greens and veggies, savory sandwich meats and tangy condiments. Something creamy is a must-have, and mashed avocados from Mexico are tastier and healthier than the usual mayo. These Hass avocados contain the monounsaturated ìgood fatsî recommended as part of a heart-healthy diet, and are also good sources of folate, fiber and vitamin E.
Lotta Muffalettas: The right start to making the famous New Orleans-style sandwich is seasoned mashed avocado spread on a roll. Pile Italian salami, ham, chopped olive salad and hot pickled peppers on top. If youíre looking for a fun sandwich to make assembly style for a crowd, you couldnít do better.
Cheesy Tomato Triangles: Spread slices of multi-grain bread with hummus then top with slices of sharp cheddar, tomato and sweet onion. Cut diagonally in quarters and finish the open-faced sandwiches with slices of fresh avocado.
Beefy-Avocado Wraps: Make a quick guacamole by mashing avocado with jarred salsa and salt. Spread the mixture on large flour tortillas. Leaving a 1/2-inch border, layer thinly sliced deli roast beef, Swiss or Muenster cheese, roasted red peppers and shredded lettuce. Roll up each filled tortilla and cut diagonally in halves. Or, to serve as hors díoeuvres, cut them crosswise in 6 to 8 pieces.
